Planning Your Invites

Posted on

Hello and congratulations on your engagement!

It can all get a bit overwhelming when planning your wedding. I remember feeling exactly like that myself when we were planning ours in 2011, so I thought it would be nice to be able to offer some practical advice on planning your wedding stationery for your special day.

It’s probably best to start with chatting about when your wedding stationery needs to be ordered. I’ve broken it down it into smaller chunks, this way the process is much more manageable and fun. Enjoy the read!

PURPOSE: To announce your wedding date!

WHY YOU ASK? So your guests can book time off work, accommodation and flights ahead of time. Especially handy for overseas guests.

TIME ALLOWANCE: Approx. 2-3 weeks.

NOTE: Don’t send these to guests if you don’t intend to invite them to your wedding ceremony/reception.

INVITATIONS // 3-6 MONTHS BEFORE (its a lot less in the US, but here in NZ, Christmas typically falls in this period so we need to allow more time)

PURPOSE: To let your guests know all the exciting details of your day.

WHY YOU ASK? So the guests know what time, day, place of the event, what to wear, what to bring etc etc. You also need to know who can make it on the day, so we need to include rsvp details with your invitation.

TIME ALLOWANCE: Approx. 2-8 weeks.

NOTE: Some guests will be couples, so only one invitation will be required between them.

PURPOSE: In case you need menus, seating plans, table numbers, place cards, service sheets for your day

WHY YOU ASK? Not only does it add prettiness to the wedding styling decor, it also informs your guest what they will be eating for the day, where they are seated, and the events of the day.

TIME ALLOWANCE: Approx. 1-3 weeks, remember to allow for courier delivery times.

PURPOSE: To thank all your lovely guests and wedding suppliers!

WHY YOU ASK? We love good manners! You can check out an earlier blog post on writing your thank you notes here

TIME ALLOWANCE: Approx. 2-3 weeks

NOTE: Sometimes its a nice idea to pop a wedding photo of the two of you on the thank you card.

Hope this is helpful to those beginning to plan your wedding. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to pop through an email to me here

Take care x
