Wording Your Invitations

Posted on
Wedding invitation by Creative Box New Zealand

Wondering how to word your wedding invitations? There are few alternatives from traditional formal verses suited for a black tie or church wedding to the lighthearted “we are getting married”.  I always suggest using wording that fits with you and the kind of day you would like. Below I’ve popped some great examples to get you started, plus the basics that need to be included…

Firstly we need to check you have all the important details:

• names of the bride’s parents or other hosts, or you might literally write “parents” or “families” (we chat more about this later)

• first name and surname of the couple

• day, date, month and year of the wedding ceremony

• time of the wedding ceremony

• where the ceremony is taking place

• location of the wedding reception

• rsvp date and details

You might also wish to include:

• details of any dress code or theme

• whether children are invited

TRADITIONAL CHURCH WEDDING (The brides parents are paying)

Mr. and Mrs. (Brides Parents)

request the honour of your presence

at the marriage of their daughter

Bride First & Last Name

to

Groom First & Last Name

son of

Mr. and Mrs. (Grooms Parents)

(Day), (date, month and year)

at (time) o’clock in the afternoon

(Ceremony venue)

(Ceremony address)

Dinner reception to follow at (reception venue)

FORMAL NON-RELIGIOUS WEDDING (Both sets of parents are paying)

Mr. and Mrs. (Brides Parents)

and

Mr. and Mrs. (Grooms Parents)

request the pleasure of your company

at the marriage of their daughter

Bride First & Last Name

to

Groom First & Last Name

(Day), (date, month and year)

at (time) o’clock in the afternoon

(Ceremony venue)

(Ceremony address)

Dinner reception to follow at (reception venue)

RELAXED/LESS FORMAL (Bride and Groom and parents are contributing. Using “families” or “parents” is nice less formal way of including everyone. It’s also great if any of your parents divorced or re-married, and you have many people to name.)

Together with our families, we

Bride First & Last Name

and

Groom First & Last Name

invite you to share the

celebration of love at our marriage

(Day), (date, month and year)

at (time) o’clock in the afternoon

(Ceremony venue)

(Ceremony address)

Dinner reception to follow at (reception venue)

RELAXED/LESS FORMAL (Bride and Groom are paying)

Bride First & Last Name

and

Groom First & Last Name

warmly invite you to celebrate

their new life together

(Day), (date, month and year)

at (time) o’clock in the afternoon

(Ceremony venue)

(Ceremony address)

Dinner reception to follow at (reception venue)

Hopefully this will be a helpful guide towards writing your invitation verse, but most importantly I hope you have fun with it. There is lots of different wording samples you can choose from here
